Our Story
SMAJ Business Solutions, Trainings and Consulting Services was founded in Calgary, Alberta, with a clear and urgent purpose: to give businesses and community organizations a single, trusted partner that could guide them through every stage of their journey — from the first spark of an idea to full compliance, sustainable funding, and lasting impact.
We recognized a critical gap in Alberta’s consulting landscape. Entrepreneurs — particularly newcomers and underserved communities — needed professional guidance to navigate business registration, structure, and growth. At the same time, community organizations were struggling to incorporate as non-profits, achieve charitable status, and secure the funding their vital programs deserved.
Most consulting firms served one sector or the other. SMAJ was built to serve both.
Today, SMAJ is the only consulting firm in Calgary that provides truly full-spectrum advisory services: business development, non-profit formation, CRA charity registration, grant writing, project management, compliance documentation, and training — all under one roof, for clients that span every sector across Alberta.
From Calgary and Edmonton to Red Deer, Lethbridge, and communities across the province, SMAJ has helped entrepreneurs launch businesses, guided community leaders through the charity registration process, secured millions in grant funding, and built the internal capacity of organizations that serve thousands of Albertans each year.
SMAJ Business Solutions, Trainings and Consulting Services exists to empower individuals, businesses, and community organizations across Alberta to build sustainable, compliant, and impactful enterprises. We provide expert guidance in business structuring, non-profit formation, grant procurement, project execution, and capacity building — delivering practical, results-driven consulting that transforms ambition into achievement.
To be Alberta’s most trusted full-spectrum consulting partner — recognized for transforming both for-profit and not-for-profit organizations from vision to viability, from founding to funding, and from compliance to community impact.

Our Mandates
The following six mandates define SMAJ’s areas of core organizational commitment and guide how the firm allocates its expertise, resources, and strategic focus.
